At least someone has got some faith in him.

Let’s just hope that the faith is well placed and we can actually see some tangible results by the end of the season.

Having finally broken his duck for the season on Tuesday night against Reading, Blades forward David McGoldrick has come in for some praise for his efforts throughout the campaign. First from his fellow forward and club captain Billy Sharp, and now from his boss Chris Wilder.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s game with Norwich City, Wilder mentioned that McGoldrick isn’t necessarily in the team for the goals that he scores, but for the other things that he brings to the team:

“I kept picking him for what he was bringing to the team on and off the ball, his performances have been exceptional. We have faith in Didzy, the players do, the staff do, and so do the fans”

My thing though, and this is something that I hinted at earlier today, is that I don’t want my forwards to be in the team for what they do off the ball, I want them to score goals, and the fact is that he, and to an extent the rest of the squad haven’t done that enough this season.

Will David McGoldrick reach five goals by the end of the year?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Perhaps I’m old fashioned in this sense, but I want my forwards to score goals first and foremost. If they can add something to their game on top of that, all well and good, but the priority has to be putting the ball in the back of the net.

So hopefully this goal that he scored on Tuesday night is going to be the first of many, because if it isn’t then you really will have to question if it’s worth us keeping hold of him going into next season, because as I’ve said before, we’re playing a dangerous game with our lack of goals, and that needs to be eradicated sooner rather than later.

Or it could cause us some problems going into next year.

He’s right again the strikers need to score more after all that’s what they get paid to do ! I know for a fact if Billy Sharp would if played as many games he be one for two by know . When the two strikers play together Billy and dizy they need to be a lot close too each other same with McBurney and Sharp and the two speedster’s should move and look for space for there runs and Norwood and Bergen spray the ball about for the moos .

    Why are you so negative?

Why is your journalism so basic?

Are you really a journalist or just a fan with an opinion?

Did you know bobby firmino hasn’t scored in 17 games at Anfield this season, not 1 goal all season. An overall total of 8 in 29 in the EPL. Hardly prolific for a Liverpool #9 going for a premier league and champions league double. But plays every week because of his contribution to the team.

Goals aside Dmc’s performances have been outstanding, he is clearly loved and respected in the dressing room, the team is 7th in the Premier League, going for Europe, with a budget less than many Championship clubs.

    So show some fucking respect.
