Can we go to Villa Park in the Premier League and NOT get involved in some form of controversy?

Last year we had the whole goal/no goal, goal line technology/VAR incident, and now we get another major talking point in the West Midlands.

John Egan found himself in a bit of hot water early on in the game when he found himself sent off inside the first 15 minutes of the game, in an incident where if I’m being honest, I think that’s a red card offence personally. If it was the other way round, we’d be screaming for one.

However, rather than discussing whether or not it was a red card, the discussion seemed to focus around the use of technology to make the decision, with former Premier League players Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards at the heart of it as they spoke on Sky Sports during half-time:

As I said, I personally think that it’s a red card and I’d rather the conversation be based on the decision rather than what goes into making it.

What about you? Do you think that it was a red card? Do you think Egan will be successful in is appeal (if he decides to make one)?

six of one, half a dozen of the other

Strikers have this off to a fine art
Hold the defenders shirt on the refs blind side and make it look like he can’t get away.

Then let go, put his hands up in the air as if to say “It’s not me ref, look where my arms are”

Truth is, there’s only one team in the Premier League that would have had a defender sent off for that, and that’s Sheffield United
