Did you ever watch that South Park episode about hoarding?

It was called ‘InSheeption’, and it was very funny, but when I saw the latest news about our summer transfer dealings, for some reason it was the only thing that I could think of, because we seem to be on track to hoard some English goalkeepers.

According to a report from ESPN, even though we look set to seal the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from AFC Bournemouth, Chris Wilder is also considering bringing back Dean Henderson for a third season on loan.

I think @The_Bladesman put it best when he said on Twitter ‘no, me neither’.

I could kind of understand it if we had brought in a young, cheap up and coming goalkeeper to sit behind Henderson and develop for a year whilst we let Henderson carry on the phenomenal job that he did last season, before the youngster eventually took his spot in the 2021/22 season.

Who would you rather have in goal next season?

Ramsdale

Ramsdale

But to spend a reported £18.5m on Ramsdale and then a reported £6m to bring Henderson in on loan, and then sit one of them on the bench for a season just smacks of sheer lunacy, as well as a waste of time and money for everyone concerned.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather have Henderson back in goal than Ramsdale, but as I hinted at this morning, it wouldn’t do a lot of good if we had Henderson looming over Ramsdale at every turn this upcoming season, so if we go for one, we can’t go for the other at the same time.

Otherwise we get into the American football comparison of ‘if you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one’.
