I wouldn’t necessarily quantify this as ‘stealing him from under their noses’, seeing as we’ve been reportedly interested in him for a number of months now.

But perhaps we turned our attention away and have now gone back in for him as an alternative after one of our previous targets fell short of the mark.

According to a report in Walfoot, despite Emmanuel Dennis seemingly looking as if we was on his way to Champions League quarter-finalists Atalanta for a move between €15-20m, a late interest being shown by Sheffield United has forced the Nigerian forward to think again about his move.

Although the report later states that the lure of Champions League football once again might prove to be a little bit too much when all is said and done. So whilst it’s possible that we might be able to turn his head, I wouldn’t hold my breath on the idea.

Should we pursue Emmanuel Dennis?

No

As I hinted at earlier when talking about Rhian Brewster, it looks like the forward position is certainly one that we are looking to build on this summer, but we seem to be going through our list of targets rather quickly, and that makes me worry about the quality that we might be bringing in if and when we do eventually bring someone in.

That forward position is certainly one that needs some work, when your top scorer only has six in a season, that should set alarm bells ringing.

And at this stage, it looks as if we might end up bringing someone in just for the sake of signing someone, rather than the actual quality (if any), that they might be able to provide.
