I think that he’s allowed to let off just a little bit of steam in this situation.
After all, with the displays that we’ve put in during our first two games back, even if one of them was a win that was wrongly taken away from us, they certainly weren’t up to the standards that we’ve come to expect from this team that have got us into the position that we’re in now.
Speaking to the press after the loss to Newcastle, Blades boss Chris Wilder made it quite clear that he’s keeping his feet firmly on the ground as refuses to get carried away with any notion that Europe is seen as a given thing:
“I’m sick and tired of people talking about Europe & Champions League. It’s about working in the present and the present is that we’ve put in two bags [SIC] average performances this week.”
Do you agree with Chris Wilder's comments?
Yes
No
And these comments certainly haven’t gone down well with Sheffield United supporters on social media, who seem to have taken issue with the notion that A) the performances weren’t even what they’d describe as average, and B) that the club shouldn’t be talking about European competition.
Average? That’s being nice

Bang average would have been an improvement.

Bang average is talking it up a bit 🤪

Worse than average I’m afraid

Our players are literally talking about Europe in their interviews … so have a go at them for pushing that narrative too not just the fans

i mean… we did have faith… until we came back to football and seen the state of how we are playing

What about you? What do you make of these comments from Wilder?
It was enevital this performance and result would happen as the defensive way they play invites teams to attack them. The team has scored 3 goals once and 2 goals 5 times in 30 games. The team have done enough to stay up, but lack of goals and these tactics playing not to lose games will see them relegated next season. Take a look at the remaining fixtures, can’t see them winning a game.
