You know when they say no news is good news?

Well that doesn’t necessarily appear to be the case when it comes to Sheffield United and our pursuit of one of the Championship’s top prospects. Having been ‘on the verge’ of signing John Swift from Reading a few weeks ago, everything seemed to go a bit quiet on that front, and now we know why.

According to Jack Winstanley of BBC Radio Berkshire, that’s probably not going to be the case, as he says that it is ‘very unlikely’ Swift will be making the move to South Yorkshire this summer, with the club’s owner Dai Yongge putting his foot down and refusing to let the 25-year-old go.

Would Swift be a good signing for us?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This shouldn’t come as a total surprise given that there was a claim from near the end of July that this might happen, but to have it more or less confirmed at this point just seems like a real kick in the teeth, especially given how highly I rate him.

I just hope that this hasn’t all come about because we took too long trying to make the deal happen, allowing Reading to change their mind, that would be really painful to take, because I do think he would have made a huge impact on the team.
