The Blades face off against the Conference Premier League leaders Wrexham on Sunday, in the FA Cup 4th round. Will there be an FA Cup magical upset on the cards at the Racecourse Ground?
In the previous round, Sheffield United travelled to Millwal, with a strong starting eleven, and advanced with a comfortable 2-0- victory, in which they did not get out of 2nd gear.
Wrexham were involved in a much different type of game. Against Championship opposition in Coventry City, their 3rd round contest saw 7 goals, ultimately winning the game 4-3 at the Ricoh Arena.
First team players: Ismaila Coulibaly and Oli McBurnie were involved in Sheffield United’s U21’s game yesterday, in a 2-0 win over Coventry City.
McBurnie was given 45 minutes, and subbed at halftime, as he’s playing catch up after recovering from an ankle injury. Coulibaly was given an hour-and-a-quarter.
My Verdict
Although the Blades played a strong team in the previous round, I think they may use this game to give McBurnie some minutes, as well as the other fringe players.
Resting players like Ndiaye, Norwood and Berge could be what the United choose to do. Giving Jebbison an extended run in the side is also on the cards, in order to keep his confidence and momentum up.
Personally, I am hoping to see Coulibaly get his competitive full debut. I watched him several times at Beerschot, and he looks like a player of real potential. He looked extremely bright during the summer in friendlies also, and he, along with Lowe and youngster Arblaster, were stand out performers for me.
He was unfortunate in that he needed surgery on his knee. Now it’s about managing his game time and getting him up to speed.
