Report: Sheff Utd hit major stumbling block over a potential deal for new centre-back

|

We always knew this was going to be a possibility.

Now it’s just a case of whether or not we take the risk in signing him, or just scrap the whole thing and try again with someone else? According to a report in The Daily Mail, our efforts to bring in Huddersfield Town defender Terrence Kongolo have hit a bit of a rough patch, with problems arising during his medical.

The defender suffered a broken foot whilst on loan with then Championship side Fulham last campaign, and whilst that obviously didn’t fully deter us from trying to make a move for him (after all, we’ve managed to get this far), it appears as though things could be worse than new initially thought.

I wrote when we were first linked with him that I was OK with us chasing after him, because his injury didn’t totally frighten me. He was only likely going to come in as a rotation/squad player anyway, so we could have been able to manage his injury whilst still helping out the team on the odd occasion.

Will we bring in a new centre-back before the window closes?

No

No

Perhaps we aren’t totally enamoured with him and are willing to walk away from the deal, which might lend some weight to why we are going after Ben Davies at Preston North End as well, just to act as a backup option.

Either way, so long as this isn’t a totally major injury that will take weeks rather than months to recover from, I’m quite happy taking a one-year loan deal and taking the risk on the deal.

What about you? Does this news about Kongolo concern you?
