Report: Premier League reaches critical stage if it wants games to come back any time soon

|

After so much optimism after watching the Bundesliga return over the weekend, this certainly is one way to come crashing back down to earth, with there being plenty of dissenting voices to go around.

Speaking right at the end of Sky Sport’s Sunday Supplement, Sam Wallace of The Telegraph, Jonathan Northcroft of The Times and Ian Ladyman of The Daily Mail were all asked if they believed that the Premier League would be back by June 12th. To which all of them answered a very emphatic ‘no’.

As we have seen in recent days, there is a growing fear amongst some members of the Premier League that players will not want to come back to playing football too early, whether it be for their own health reasons, or passing things on to members of their family. And although some Sheffield United players have been pretty adament that they want things to finish and are willing to make sacrifices to make it happen, the more doubt that creeps in, the less likely any change will occur.

As news came out today that clubs had voted to get training back underway again, whilst it might be a positive sign in one sense, there is still a long way to go before it is confirmed that games will take place. Whilst the clubs might be OK with training, getting players to play again is something rather different.

Is some form of PPG a fair way to decide the end to the season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

We really are now bringing things down to the wire when it comes to the Premier League, with UEFA saying that the 25th May, only one week away from today, is the deadline for clubs to decide what they want to do with their seasons, this week especially is going to be a make or break time for the Premier League as it decides what it wants to do with the season.

And if there are any more delays, be they big or small, then I think it really will be the final straw when it comes to getting things up and running again. Then we start getting into the dreaded position of ‘Points Per Game’, and that method is bound to leave someone unhappy, potentially us.

So if you, like me, want football to return, then it’s time to start crossing your fingers, because we’re going to need all the help we can get.

The players of clubs in trouble will delay coming back for as long as possible regardless of how safe they are.
Theyve got a ready made get out clause.

If it’s safe to play, it’s safe to play this season out, before starting another.

If the null and voiders continue with their crap the Premier League and the FA should just say, “OK a points per game system will operate, if you finish in a relegation place, tough”
“If you miss out on promotion, tough”
“If you miss a play off place, tough”
“If you miss a European spot, tough”
