He’ll be sticking around, but don’t get too used to the sight of him at Bramall Lane

That appears to be the latest development when it comes to one of Sheffield United’s key men and his future.

According to a report from Alan Nixon at The Sun, Blades midfielder John Lundstram is set to stay at the club for the whole of the upcoming season, as clubs will wait until they can sign him on a free transfer either pre-contractually in January, or next summer.

Lundstram has found himself in a bit of a quandary when it comes to his contract, with the club and him still at an impasse over a long-term deal, with it now seeming more than likely that he is going to leave the club, more than likely next summer.

I do think that the club might be missing a trick here, and it somewhat links back to what I said a few weeks ago. If the general consensus seems to be that he is going to leave, then we really should be making more of an effort to sell him on in my mind, rather than just letting him leave for nothing.

Should the club sell Lundstram this summer?

Yes

No

No

We still have roughly a month left in the transfer window, so we do still have some flexibility over the whole thing. Either we try our best to sign him to that long-term deal (of indeed that is what the club wants, and having been a key contributor in the team last season I don’t see any reason why not), or we get him out the door as soon as possible, get some money and use it to reinvest in the team.

Either way, if we don’t want him to leave for nothing, we’re running out of time to make a firm decision on the matter, and we could be throwing money away as a result of it.
