We’re quickly approaching decision time when it comes to one man’s future at Bramall Lane, or lack thereof depending on how you view the situation.

The contract situation surrounding midfielder John Lundstram has been a bit of a complicated one. He and the Blades have been engaged in a bit of a tussle over the 26-year-old’s future for some time, however the club triggered a one-year extension on the deal back in July to keep him at the club for the next 12 months, or at the very least control his future for the next 12 months.

A recent report in The Athletic claims that whilst a new long-term contract does remain on the table, there are a number of clubs circling in case he doesn’t put pen to paper, including Burnley, West Ham and Rangers.

Should the club sell Lundstram this summer?

No

When I say we’re quickly approaching decision time, the deadline for that is in fact the 10th October when the transfer window closes, and the chance to really make some serious profit more or less goes out the window.

With the emergence of Sander Berge in his position forcing him into more of a diminished role towards the end of last season, I think the decision is a pretty clear one for the club to make. If he’s not willing to sign the deal, then now is as good a time as any to pull the trigger as it were, cash in and invest in the rest of the squad.

And the sooner that we can do that, the easier we can bring someone in. We don’t want to drag this out too long and leave ourselves with not enough time to get a replacement in.
