It may look like the more appealing transfer given his return.

However, there’s a lot more factors to consider that might make you think twice about it, and I’m going to lay them out.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca, Sheffield United are one of a number of clubs that are interested in signing Real Mallorca forward Ante Budimir. The 29-year-old Croatian scored 13 goals in the league last season, although it wasn’t enough to save his side from relegation.

The report later states that fellow La Liga side Villarreal were the frontrunners to take him, however they were put off by the proposed transfer fee of €15m and decided to walk away from the deal. So not only does that give us one less team to worry about fighting off, but we also know how much he is going to cost.

Will we sign Brewster this window?

No

And it’s going to be an awful lot less than some reports have us paying for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster. But as I said earlier it could be a case of getting what you paid for, and I think Brewster would be the sounder investment.

Both players would be at a bit of a risk because they’d be adapting to new leagues, although Brewster gets the upper hand because he’s used to English football, so the adjustment will be easier.

On top of that, Brewster is seen as someone for the future, whereas with someone like Budimir, you’re expecting the best of his results to come straight away given his age, so if Brewster doesn’t work out we know he’s got years ahead of him, whereas Budimir might be ‘past his peak’ as it were.

That factor comes into it when you consider the money we’re paying, where we can spread out the value of the signing over a much longer period of time.

What about you? Who would you rather go for in this situation?
