Looks like Chris Wilder is getting his wish.

Last week the Blades boss gave us an update on the kind of deals we should expect the club to be making, and by all accounts, we’re two signings down on that front.

According to a report from Alan Nixon at The Sun, the Blades are ‘more than close’ to announcing the deals of Max Lowe and Jayden Bogle from Derby County (indeed they may have already signed by the time you read this). The final details of the deal are yet to be released, but a report from last week claimed that it could be in the region of around £10m for the pair of them.

I briefly spoke yesterday about the deal, and how I hoped this isn’t a case of settling for ‘that will do’ when it comes to our transfer targets this summer. With the likes of Matty Cash going to Aston Villa for as much as £16m, if we are ‘getting what we paid for’, then we’re probably not going to be getting the best that the division has to offer, and that worries me.

How much will the club spend this summer?

More than £50m

More than £50m

Less than £50m

Less than £50m

Whilst it’s likely that they are only going to be brought in as backups, do their names really strike you with confidence as it pertains to what they can offer?

If one of our first-choice full backs is out long-term through either injury or suspension, and they are forced to deal with Premier League wingers on a regular basis do you feel confident they’ll be able to step in and do a job for us? I personally don’t.

And if strength in depth is what is going to stop us from taking too big a step backwards this season, then I’m not sure these players are going to be the ones to fill those spots to quite the level we want.
