“Patience will run out”: Journalist claims forward’s fitness problems could be causing problems

|

On borrowed time?

That could very well be the case for one of Sheffield United’s forwards when it comes to their fitness levels. I’m talking of course about Lys Mousset. I recently detailed about Blades journalist Richard Sutcliffe’s update on the Frenchman’s fitness levels after he was left out of the squad to face Wolves for the opening game of the season.

When his response was followed up by another query asked during the same Q&A, about whether or not the club would be better off replacing him this summer with a new forward. This was his response:

“Patience will run out eventually, am sure. There were certainly a few eyebrows raised last summer at just how far behind the rest of the squad when he arrived from Bournemouth. The coaching staff got him up to speed after a couple of months and maybe we are looking at a repeat.

I’m with you, Tom, such an exciting player and the one player last season who – when fit and firing – had that x-factor you often need in the PL.”

Has Mousset been a good buy for Sheffield United?

Yes

No

I’m just trying to work out when that patience is in danger of running out, and whether or not it’s going to be in any way tied in with the end of the transfer window in just a few weeks’ time.

Because when you tie it all in with the talk surrounding Rhian Brewster and you wonder if the Blades could be in a position where they are looking to go ‘one in, one out’ rather than simply adding Brewster to the pile of forwards already at the club.

Of course when you finish the previous season as the club’s top scorer you do get some level of leeway because you hope that he’ll be able to rekindle that form as Sutcliffe alluded to, but there comes a time where you’ve got to be able to deliver regularly, and so far that just hasn’t been the case.

What about you? What do you make of Sutcliffe’s view on Mousset? And what do you think of Mousset’s fitness situation?
