It looks like this saga is going to have more twists and turns in it than Lombard Street.

Dean Henderson has been doing wonders for Sheffield United this season, currently ranking 2nd in the league when it comes to clean sheets and being part of a defensive unit that has helped the Blades become the second-best defence in the league when it comes to goals conceded.

And there’s a good chance we could be seeing more of it in 2020/21.

According to a recent story in The Daily Mail, the stopper has stated that he will be coming back to the club next season. In addition, speaking to The Daily Star, Blades captain Billy Sharp revealed that Bramall Lane might not exactly be the 22-year-old’s preferred destination when it comes to his football next season:

“He wants to come back. He wants to play for Man United, obviously – he’s not going to lie – but if he can’t do that he wants to play for Sheffield United.”

Will Dean Henderson be England's number one in the future?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Which kind of makes us feel like we are second choice for him, and whilst I wouldn’t totally be against that given how well he has done for us, particularly this season, it does make me feel like he is using us somewhat as a bit of a stepping stone or a placeholder until David De Gea leaves Manchester United and then he can finally take his place.

If he gets it this summer, or if he has to wait another 12 months to see if anything develops, the general gist, judging by not only Sharp’s comments but those of Blades boss Chris Wilder, is that he’s only staying with us and could be coming back next season because he has no other choice.

And there’s just something, although he has been performing great this season and I should be able to separate what he does on the pitch to his various motivations, that just doesn’t sit right with me. Does it sit right with you?

Who cares what Daily Mail says
If he wants to come back to us we will always welcome him he knows that.
If we have to buy him then sell him back to ManUre in 3/4 years time we wont lose any money will we ???

Have a word with yourself Matthew, it’s bad enough you’re wrong, but bleating about it via a media lots can read does no one any favours, – and in particular your desperate headline.
We should be so lucky that a Blade would be willing to be loyal to us while waiting his chance and biding his time playing elsewhere.
He’s unashamedly loyal and we should be support that, celebrate his honesty and be pleased he continually picks the first United us over other suitors.
You’re part the reason footballers can’t all be honest, or do you prefer to either be had on ?!
Honestly, you’re better than this and if it’s been a slow day, pick a subject you’re good at.
