‘I can be the one to fix him’.

That appears to be the message that Chris Wilder was sending out when it came to the signing of Scottish international Oliver Burke.

Having been one of the more highly rated prospects in British football a few years ago, things just haven’t gone right for Burke since then, with loan spells out to Celtic and Deportivo Alaves not exactly doing a lot to get him back on track, but by the sounds of it, that’s all going to change.

Speaking to the club website, the Blades boss was keen to stress just how much faith he has that Sheffield United will be the club that can turn his career around after a few bad years:

“We needed a touch of pace and Oli certainly gives us that. It’s a move that suits all parties and we are delighted to have Oli in the building. He’s had a couple of big moves in the past that haven’t gone as he’d have hoped, but it’s down to us now to give him a kick-start and he’s got all the attributes we want and need.”

The Blades will finish ______ than last season?

Higher

Higher

Lower

All I’ll say is, that he’s taking on a big responsibility when he says those words.

As I said when it was first mentioned that we might be getting Burke, if this was earlier in his career when he was on the way up then I might have been a bit more excited, but it seems like he’s established what he is at this stage of his career, and it’s going to take something major to change that.

And whilst we don’t know what the fee is for Burke with it being undisclosed, it’s still an awful big risk to be taking him on when we know what to expect, and based off the last few years of his career, that’s not really all that much.

What about you? Do you have faith that Wilder could turn around Burke’s career around?
