Big words, but can he back them up?

More importantly, will he be given the chance to back them up after years of being denied it. That’s the situation that faces new Blades defender Ethan Ampadu, as he looks to break into the Sheffield United first-team this season.

He’ll certainly be made to work for it, because with the likes of Chris Basham, John Egan, Jack O’Connell among others being pretty prominent last season, it’s going to take a lot to convince Chris Wilder to slot him in for one of them.

Speaking on his arrival at the club (via @The_Bladesman), the Welshman spoke about Wilder’s ambitions for him in the team, what he can bring to the team and how he felt he can play a big part in things going forward:

“He [Chris Wilder] told me how he wants the team to play, I’m a player that can fit into that. I like to get on the ball and get the team playing, and I also like winning football games so I think it’ll suit me perfectly.”

The Blades will finish ______ than last season?

Higher

Higher

Lower

Words that I can certainly get behind.

I said when we were in the latter stages of signing him how I felt that he would make a big impact on the team if he was a regular player within the team. And that’s the biggest factor of all of this, he needs to be playing regularly. He clearly has belief in himself, and by the sound of it that is being reciprocated by the likes of Wilder.

And having been denied the chance to show what he can do in recent seasons, I’m sure that he will be itching to show what he can do when he gets a consistent run in the team.

Now we just have to wait and see if he’ll be given it.
