Sheffield United are closing in on signing out-of-contract Derby County captain Tom Lawrence, according to Yorkshire Live.

Earlier this week it was reported, by the Express and Star, that West Brom had pulled out of the race to sign the Welshman. But still a number of clubs are looking at signing Tom Lawrence.

According to Yorkshire Live, Lawrence has Scottish giants Rangers lurking to sign him out of free agency. The latest reports however suggest that the Blades are the closest to signing the attacker, and are said to be in advanced stages of negotiating with the player.

Tom Lawrence notched 11 goals and 5 assists in 38 league games for the relegated Rams last season. Two of those goals came against Sheffield United when they visited Pride Park, and lost 2-0 following Lawrence’s excellent strikes.

United have already done a bit of business this weekend, signing goalkeepers Adam Davies and Jake Eastwood to new deals. With deals for Anel Ahmedhodzic and Tommy Doyle said to be in advanced stages too, the next few days for the Blades could be very busy.
