What next for Hendrie?

As a former Premiership footballer and ex England International, Lee Hendrie was an easy target for Blades fans when his performances were below par earlier in the season.

Signed in the summer by Bryan Robson, Hendrie was blighted early on by injury which didn’t help his Blades career. When Hendrie did play, he played with his head down, rarely showing the skill or willingness which granted him his call-up for England. Known as a real box to box player who knows how to pass, score goals and put a tackle in, yet was often placed out on the wing by Bryan Robson.

A loan spell at Leicester shortly after Kevin Blackwell’s arrival saw a different Lee Hendrie, he was once again playing with passion and flare, like he had displayed as a youngster with Aston Villa. He made comments shortly after the move about his desire to stay at the midlands club as he was much happier than he was with The Blades.

However, May saw relegation for Leicester City, and Third Division Football on the Horizon for Ian Holloway’s club. Lee Hendrie, undoubtedly is too good for League 1, so a return to the Walkers Stadium is perhaps not to be the desired route for Hendrie, so where will he be?

Kevin Blackwell announced last week that Hendrie would be expected to return for pre season and it would be a fresh start.

‘Sometimes the profile of a player doesn’t match a struggling team and it could be that as we now have a winning one, Lee could flourish here next season’.

So, whether we will see Lee Hendrie sporting the red and white next season is still in doubt but, if he does we will certainly see the Lee Hendrie that is known to the Villa Park faithful. If this isn’t the case, then Lee Hendrie will be packing his bags, because Kevin Blackwell won’t accept players just picking up their paycheck.
