Well I suppose that gives us a little bit of security going into next season.

Now it’s just a case of how many more seasons of security we’re going to get from him going forward.

There have been a few contracts handed around Bramall Lane during the pause in Premier League action, with Billy Sharp, Oliver Norwood and David McGoldrick being the biggest names to put pen to paper.

However, there’s still one man who’s yet to be tied down long-term by the Blades, and that’s influential midfielder John Lundstram, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be sticking around if you listen to what Blades boss Chris Wilder has been saying.

Will John Lundstram sign a new long-term deal?

No

Speaking ahead of tonight’s game with Tottenham Hotspur, Wilder clarified the contract situation surrounding the 26-year-old:

“I’ll do my best to see what will make the group better for next year. You can’t stand still in this division. It’s something, longer term deals, that has been going on in the background. The John Lundstram deal is on the table and we’ll be triggering it.”

Will John Lundstram get an England call-up?

Yes

The thing is though, a one-year extension doesn’t necessarily mean much in the grand scheme of things right now. All it does is mean that we aren’t losing him for free this summer when his initial contract runs out, but that still means that we can sell him on this summer if we don’t agree to a long-term deal. Better to sell him now and get some money for him rather than letting him go for nothing.

Not saying that this should or that I want it to happen, just laying it out there that it’s a possibility up until he puts pen to paper on something long-term.

What about you? What do you make of Wilder’s comments on Lundstram’s contract?
