Need to be doing more.

That seemed to be the message that Chris Wilder wanted to get across when talking about the summer transfer window.

According to a report from The Yorkshire Post, Blades boss Wilder is showing signs of frustration when it comes to the signings, or indeed lack thereof when it comes to Sheffield United this summer. It later goes on to state that Wilder wants at least four new faces in at Bramall Lane, with wing-back, central midfield and centre-forward being the priority positions.

And speaking to the outlet, Wilder outlined exactly what his plans are for dealing with such frustrating scenarios:

“We may have to walk away from some deals, we may have to take our time on deals, but there are definitely targets and they are position-specific reflecting on last season and what we need, what worked and what hasn’t worked. I am frustrated because I want everybody in – that’s the nature of the business.”

How much will the club spend this summer?

More than £50m

More than £50m

Less than £50m

Less than £50m

And I have to say I do share some of those sentiments.

We find ourselves less than two weeks away from the first game of the season, and so far the only two players we’ve brought in have been two goalkeepers, which whilst it was a position of need following the departure of Dean Henderson, for that to be the one and only deal to be concluded really does sound baffling.

Whilst I have said that the club need to be acting frugal when it comes to some deals that are going on, that doesn’t mean it should stretch to every single deal that we are being linked with. If we are to take a step forward as a club, or at the very least not take too big a step backward, then we need to be more aggressive when it comes to these transfer dealings.

If there’s a player that we want, and it isn’t an exuberant amount that the other club or player wants, then we need to be paying it.

Otherwise we just find ourselves standing still with the same players, and eventually that will catch up with us and we’re going to regret not pushing the boat out that little bit further to get the job done.
