Sheffield United are looking at signing Newcastle centre-back Ciaran Clark, according to the Daily Mail.

The 32 year-old Irishman would provide great experience and cover for United across the back three.

With Newcastle bringing in a centre-back this summer, it looks like Newcastle no longer see Clark as a valuable squad member. Clark started 12 times for Newcastle in the Premier League last season.

United do need to acquire centre-backs this summer, as the senior depth in that position is quite light. With Jack Robinson, John Egan and Chris Basham being the only senior centre-backs at the club that are fit to start the season. Jack O’Connell is still striving to fully recover from his knee injury.

Bringing Ciaran Clark in would allow youngsters Kyron Gordon and Kacper Lopata to go out and gain vital first team experience on loan, which is the ultimate aim for all promising youngsters this season, including Harry Boyes who has already been shipped out.
