Sheffield United took a big step towards getting back into the automatic promotion places with a crucial three points at Tranmere Rovers.
The win for United, courtesy of an own goal just before half time now sees them four points off the top of League One with two games in hand.
The defence was back to its solid best as Tranmere rarely threatened the United goal.
The midfield worked hard throughout the game and Ryan Flynn, Michael Doyle and Barry Robson all came close to scoring for the blades.
With opportunities limited to play passing football on a poor pitch, Dave Kitson proved an able target man up front and Jonathan Forte was a constant threat with his pace.
Over 2,000 Unitedites made the trip to the Wirral for this crucial game.
