Former Sheffield United defender Leigh Bromby has been forced to retire from the game due to a knee injury.

Bromby ruptured his patella tendon in a game at Cardiff City in April 2012, he has been unable to play since, and he has been advised to call time on his career by a specialist surgeon

The 33-year-old who was released by Leeds United at the end of last season had two separate spells at Bramall Lane.

He made 140 appearances for United during his time at Bramall Lane and he was a key member of the side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

Following his retirement, Bromby is now going into coaching and he has remained at Leeds, working with their under-16`s squad.
