Sheffield United finished pre-season with a 1-1 draw at York City.

The draw at Bootham Crescent send United into the new League One season unbeaten in eight games during their pre-season campaign.

Having played on the Friday night, Blades boss David Weir chose a different starting eleven to the one that had drawn with Greek side Atromitos on Friday night.

Callum McFadzean gave United an early lead when he fired home after just eight minutes.

Lyle Taylor, who had netted twice in his first three games for United, almost doubled the lead soon afterwards but his shot cleared the bar.

With Weir having a difficult decision to make ahead of the new season as to which goalkeeper to use, Mark Howard showed his worth with a good tip over the bar as the game headed towards half time.

McFadzean almost scored his second of the game just before the break but the legs of the York goalkeeper denied him.

Weir made seven changes over the course of the second half including first senior appearances for three of the clubs youngsters.

Ryan Bowman equalised for York with just eleven minutes remaining.

United went looking for a winner and Joe Ironside went close to restoring the lead in the closing minutes when he fired just wide but they had to settle for a draw in the end.

The Blades will now prepare for their opening League One fixture against Notts County at Bramall Lane next Friday night.
