Olly Longden writes his latest piece for Vital Sheffield United looking at the first week under David Weir at Bramall Lane.

With two games played, one win, one loss, and a cup exit, I`m sure fans are getting nervous about the new season.

This, coupled with the uncertain future of Kevin McDonald, who apparently is still “Mulling” over a move to Wolves, has probably got some people thinking whether we will have a viable push for automatic promotion.

McD has had talks with Wolves, and went for a medical on Friday, however, no deal was done as yet, and everyone is hanging on to whether or not he will stay or go.

Personally, I would prefer him to stay on, as he is one of the most experienced players, and a good play maker at the Lane. His partnership with Doyle secures the centre of midfield. I don`t believe he will be better off at Wolves, apart from financially. Surely he must see that we are building and pushing for automatic promotion this year. Anyway, I`ll be keeping a close eye on developments there.

The Brentford game was another without the forwards finding the net, and yet again, fell to a defender to score. I suppose that, with the most experienced forward being Porter, there is a bit of a young front line. Hopefully fortunes will change with the coming games. I`d especially like to see if we get a couple of wins under our belts, that confidence might grow, and we`ll see the forwards knocking them in.
I would also like to see Miller get match fit again, as I believe he has more quality to show, after his abrupt end to the last campaign through injury. McMahon is nearing match fitness as well, so would be good to get him back in the team.

Its good news that George Long is getting international experience, with being called up yet again for the U21`s. McGinty has also been called up for the Irish republic`s U21`s as well. United have a good knack for producing international talent, Harry`s been involved before, as well as past players such as Walker.

As always, I`ll be keeping the faith, and hopefully look forward to a decent string of results in the coming weeks. I`ll also be looking forward to getting home on leave and taking up my seat back on the Kop!
