Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough says the players deserve an immense amount of credit after booking their place in the semi-final of the FA Cup with a deserved win over Charlton Athletic.

United won 2-0 to stretch their winning run to nine in all competitions, a new club record and the clean sheet was an eighth in nine games.

Clough was full of praise for the players, who as well as booking their place at Wembley have moved up from second bottom of League One to contemplating a late push for a play-off place.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Clough said, “I am delighted for everybody that we are on our way to Wembley and especially for the players.

“To win nine games on the spin and keep as many clean sheets as we have done, they deserve an immense amount of credit.”

After a hectic first half that saw few clear-cut chances, United put the game beyond their championship opponents with two goals in the space of 100 seconds halfway through the second half. Ryan Flynn pounced at the back post to poke the ball home for the first before John Brayford saw his deflected shot beat Ben Hamer in the Charlton goal.

The two goals knocked the stuffing out of the visitors who had missed a fantastic chance to take the lead minutes before Flynn`s opener. Callum Harriott somehow managed to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy and United took full advantage.

United carved out more chances after the quick fire goals and the win was well deserved.
