Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough says he is close to completing a deal to bring in John Brayford from Cardiff City.

Brayford, who played for Clough at both Burton Albion and Derby County, has struggled since arriving at the Premier League side in the summer and he has made just two appearances this season.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Clough said, “We are very close to signing John Brayford in until the end of the season. He will be a good signing for us.

“I have known him since he was a 16-year-old lad at Burton. He is a great player, good lad and great to have around and I will be delighted to get it over the line.

“He can play anywhere across the back four and he can play in midfield as well. He is a very good all-round player.”

Brayford would be available for United if he signs in time for the FA Cup tie with Fulham on Sunday.
