BREAKING NEWS

Manchester City have today been cleared in their appeal against a ban on European football for the next two seasons, meaning there is less room for error when it comes to Sheffield United’s pursuit of European competition for 2020/21.

The ruling means that now only the top four in this season’s Premier League will qualify for the Champions league as normal, with the team in 5th place going into the Europa League group stage and the team in 6th (by virtue of Manchester City winning the Carabao Cup) entering the qualifying stages.

Now whilst it is possible that the team finishing in 7th place might be granted a position in the competition as well by virtue of either Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea winning the F.A Cup (combined with where they end up in the league table), it does mean that Sheffield United are going to have to finish a minimum of 7th rather than 8th in order to have the chance to compete in Europe next season.

Will the Blades qualify for Europe?

Yes

Yes

No

With the Blades currently sitting in 7th place as things stand, it is all in our hands going forward, and with a game against another European contender against Leicester City to come on Thursday night, we can give ourselves a great chance to make this season a memorable one if we were to come away with three points, but now three points is now the minimum required if we are to give ourselves the best chance of doing it.

What about you ? What do you make of this news about Manchester City? And do you think that we’ll still be able to get over the line when it comes to getting into a European place?
