Former Blades striker Paul Shaw has joined Evo-Stick side Retford United, in the hope of saving them from relegation.

Shaw, who joined the Blades from Gillingham has been without a club since his departure from Ferencvaros, and after an offer from Retford has opted to aid their cause.

It will be a culture shock for Shaw who recently spoke highly of his time in Hungary, as he turns out for his Badgers debut at Ossett Town this coming Saturday. With an international break for the Blades, it will give his legions of fans the chance to show their support for the former Arsenal and Chesterfield frontman.

Shaw has recently been heard on BBC Radio Sheffield, and was a guest summariser for the League 2 encounter between Rotherham United and Chesterfield, but always said he wanted to get back into the game.

United have won just two of their opening twelve games this season, and will be relying on Shaw to keep them in the northern based Premier Division, along side AFC Halifax Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Liverpool side, Marine.
