Over ten-and-a-half thousand fans turned up to watch a Sheffield United first team IX take on their Chinese counterparts. In fact, demand was so high for the game that over 400 fans had to be turned away as there were not enough stewards available to open up more of the ground!

The match provided an opportunity for new signing Mamadou Seck to put in an appearance, and the Senegalese defender managed an hour of the game.

Goals came either side of the half, the first from Alan Quinn for United, and the equaliser, a Dominic Roma own goal for Chengdu.

Quinn’s goal was a free header from a Tonge free kick on 40 minutes, while Roma’s attempted headed clearance from Ming Jing’s free kick was put through his own net on 65 minutes.

The final whistle signalled the end of the Chengdu Blades pre-season tour, but there was still time for the players to receive the applause of a bumper crowd.
