Report: Sheffield United’s potential pursuit of Dean Henderson takes yet another twist

|

Well, there is a reason that I called it ‘silly season’.

Because you never know what is going to be coming around the corner, and transfer rumours can change on a more or less daily basis, like this one for example.

A recent report in The Sun claimed that Manchester United are interested in bringing in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to replace David De Gea as their number one next season. However, a more recent report from Football Insider claims that Manchester United are in fact in fact “in advanced talks” to sign him to a new deal at Old Trafford.

Now, this doesn’t mean that he won’t be back with us next season, this could be Manchester United ‘playing the long game’ as it were, with the intention of sending him back on loan, something that he has said in the past is a possibility if he isn’t guaranteed the number one spot with the Red Devils.

Is Henderson the club's best ever goalkeeper?

Yes

Yes

No

No

What’s also a possibility, is that this is being done to essentially drive up the price by giving him a new deal to increase his value, which depending on who you ask might be a major stumbling block. In the eyes of former Blades boss Neil Warnock, he thinks that he should be signed ‘whatever the cost’.

However, given the way we seem to be tip-toeing around deals for other potential goalkeepers, then we might not exactly have the staying power to match bank balances with teams like Chelsea who are reportedly willing to offer as much as £50m for his services.

So whichever way you look at it, the chances of him potentially staying for the next decade or so don’t look all that promising.

What about you? What do you make of this latest news about Henderson?
