Now, this certainly would put the cats amongst the pigeons somewhat.

And it would very much work in Sheffield United’s favour.

According to a report in The Sun, Manchester United are interested in bringing in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to replace David De Gea as their number one next season. Schmeichel is of course the son of former Old Trafford legend Peter, so wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps might play a part in the 33-year-old’s decision.

This would of course have a major impact in our bid to bring Dean Henderson back to Bramall Lane, with the 23-year-old on record as saying that he would come back to us if he isn’t guaranteed the number one spot with Manchester United, although as I said last week, we are fast approaching the point of no return if we are to bring him back.

Will Henderson be with us next season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

If this report is true (and let’s remind ourselves there’s a reason this time of year is called ‘silly season’), then I think it shows something in regards to how Manchester United feel about Henderson that they are willing to bring in someone new to compete with De Gea, rather than let him go at it himself, as was reportedly the stance last week.

It shows that they really don’t think that highly of him, compared to the level of faith and high praise that we have reserved for the stopper. So in a sense, I hope this report is true, because it will make our path of bringing Henderson back to Bramall Lane that little bit easier, and then he’ll be somewhere that he really is appreciated.

What about you? Do you think that this report gives us some hope that we might be able to bring Henderson back?
