Milan Mandaric has told BBC Radio that Portsmouth have started talks with Neil Warnock’s advisors.

The Sheffield United boss was made the bookies favourite to take over the Pompey hotseat as soon as Alain Perrin was relieved of the post.

Mandaric has now added substance to the rumours by admitting ‘We are in the process of talking to Warnock’s financial advisory people. We’re still expecting a response from Sheffield United to give us a green light to talk directly to Warnock.’

Assistant manager Stuart McCall says that they should know this week and that he is just getting on with preparations for this weekends match against Sheffield Wednesday. Warnock had said ‘I’ll be managing against Sheffield Wednesday’ when asked about the links over the weekend.

Meanwhile Watford midfielder Matthew Spring is hoping that Warnock’s departure might be such a ‘massive blow’ that his club might gain in the promotion race. Watford are just nine points behind second place Sheffield United

‘It would be a massive blow for Sheffield United if Neil Warnock went. They would have to find someone to take the reins from him, and I don’t think anyone can. As a character in football, I don’t think you can replace him. If he were to go it would be tough and their players would suffer.’

It seems that 69% of fans on this site believe that Warnock will leave.
