Opinion: Blades man’s words should act as the catalyst for more change amongst fellow players

|

Well, now we know his views on the matter.

And given the reports that came out over the past few days about players not wanting to come back given the circumstances, I feel as though it’s better if we know which players stand where on the subject rather than having to guess which players are feeling which way about it. Step forward George Baldock.

Speaking during a conference call, the midfielder opened up about what life has been like in the current climate, before stating his views on whether or not, and indeed when football will be able to come back:

“I can understand football not resuming right for the time being because of the bigger picture, but to null and void the season just doesn’t sit right with me… It’s got to be safe for the public, we don’t just want to get back and put people at risk, when it’s safe and ready to do so, we’ll be ready.”

So by the sounds of it, he is one of the players that wants football to resume in some capacity, but that he doesn’t want things to be rushed back, which is more than fair.

Do you agree with Baldock?

Yes

Yes

No

No

But it’s the fact that he has come out and given his view on the matter that’s the important thing. His views along with those of Chris Wilder and Billy Sharp should become the norm when it comes to the debate whether games should be restarted. Because at the end of the day, they are going to play a huge part in whether the season restarts.

Whilst there may be some dissenting voices, if the majority of players want to get games played, then I believe that will play a huge part in the decision, same if the majority of players don’t want it to be played.

So hopefully these comments spark a new wave of players coming out with their views on the matter, be they one way or the other. That way we might get a more definitive view on what road we’re likely to be heading down.
