Brighton forward Colin Kazim-Richards is expected to join Sheffield United ahead of today`s transfer deadline. Richards, a target for South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, is due at Bramall Lane to discuss personal terms after the two clubs agreed a fee.

The 20-year-old scored six times for the Seagulls last season (5 of those coming on the road), which included a strike at Bramall Lane in United`s 3-1 win. However the petulant youngster, who received nine yellow cards last season, handed in a transfer request after being named on the bench for the opening day fixture at Rotherham.

Kazim-Richards joined Brighton after an Albion supporter won a Coca-Cola competition to buy a player.

‘I am really disappointed and I feel personally let down by Colin. We gave him the chance to get out of Bury and I don’t think he’s repaid us for that, we felt Colin could have built his career here at Brighton,” said disappointed Albion boss Mark McGhee.

Blades supporters will hope Kazim-Richards’ arrival is the first of many at Bramall Lane today. Capable of playing upfront or out wide, Kazim-Richards’ pace is arguably his greatest asset. It remains to be seen if Warnock can curb his questionable temperament.

Like new signing Christian Nade, Kazim-Richards could be one for the future. But United desperately require players for the present if they are to avoid a season of struggle.
