Improved Blades Draw At Northampton

A vastly improved Sheffield United performance saw the Blades bounce back from an opening pre-season mauling at Burton Albion with a 1-1 draw at Northampton Town on Tuesday.

The official website says that we ‘upped the tempo’ in the game at Sixfields but, for what results are worth, we still couldn’t find a win with the game ending in a one-one draw as the hosts came from behind to deny us.

Summer arrival Butler was on hand just before the half hour mark to get onto the end of Davies’ cross to touch the ball home and give us a lead, which was taken into the half time break.

On the hour with Northampton awarded a penalty Marc Richards himself stepped up to beat Long and draw the hosts level at one-one, and this is how it ended.

Nigel Clough used a good number of players with a good three quarters played by a number as continued fitness was worked on with Scot trialist Robbie Crawford, who also played against Burton Albion, and former Chelsea defender Adam Nditi both used from the start.

Blades: Long (Howard 68), Davies, McGahey (Maguire 68), Butler (Alcock 68), Nditi (Harris 61), Campbell-Ryce (McDonagh 65), McGinn (Basham 61), Doyle (Dimaio 61), Reed (Scougall 65), Crawford (Paling 6), Porter (Baxter 65).
