Time is very much ticking away.

That seems to be the situation facing Sheffield United right now when it comes to the contract situation facing midfielder John Lundstram. There were reports over the weekend that other clubs are essentially going to sit back and wait for his current deal to run out and then try to bring him in on a free transfer next summer (or even in January in Ranger’s case).

Speaking to The Star, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder gave a brief update on what is going on with the midfielder’s contract, and he stated that he very much hopes that the two sides can come to an agreement, but that it could very well be a different matter going forward:

“I’ve made it clear about John and the situation. I’d love him to sign a new contract, and you never know, he might. It’s a bit of a waiting game, to be honest. But there’s no downside to him putting it all anyway. He sees his immediate future here and he’ll get my backing so I hope he gets backing from everyone else as well.”

Should the club sell Lundstram this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This goes back to what I was saying yesterday about the whole thing, and I just wish that the club would make their mind up one way or the other, and hopefully Wilder’s words will go some way to helping the club make a decision.

There are of course obvious benefits to Lundstram staying (strength in depth, knows the system well, important player etc.), but the only benefit of him leaving would be if we are to cash in on him, and we can’t do that if he leaves for free.

So the club needs to decide what their plans are and follow through with them, if they want him to stay, give him the money that he deserves. And if they don’t then let us get the money that we as a club deserves so we can properly cash in on him.
