Bob Harris has said that following our fantastic Capital One Cup quarter final victory over Southampton last night, we’ll go through to the Semi Finals relishing our underdog status in the competition because it keeps serving us well.
It was a Harris free kick that their goalkeeper Fraser Forster spilled allowing Marc McNulty to slip in and score the winner.
Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Harris couldn’t have cared less about not getting the winner himself in that moment, he was just delighted to have played a part in putting us through to the next round.
‘It didn’t really matter who scored the goal, the important thing is we are through to the semi finals of the Capital One Cup and again we have beaten a Premiership side, a very good one too.’
Harris goes on to say that McNulty just has that striker’s instinct and he knows how to be in the right place at the right time and what runs to make and as training is geared to always follow the ball in, it does just come as instinct to him and it paid off once more and it led everyone towards celebrations.
‘We always have the belief that we are capable of springing a surprise and we quite like the underdogs tag, whoever we get in the last four then we will be the outsiders, but that doesn’t bother us at all.’
Of course for Harris now, the focus is back to the league because he knows we have plenty of important fixtures coming up as we try and maintain our promotion push this season and we do have the Queens Park Rangers FA Cup tie coming up as well which we can relish, but it’s all about taking it one game at a time.
He does acknowledge though that a two legged semi final might help us as it gives us the opportunity to have 90 minutes in front of our fans again at Bramall Lane.
