Former Sheffield United midfielder James Harper has joined fellow Championship club Hull City on a free transfer.

Harper, who joined the Blades on deadline day last season as part of the deal which saw Brian Howard join Reading wasn’t offered an extension to his previous deal, and was allowed to leave at the end of the season.

The former Reading man, played 34 times for the Blades in the Championship, scoring four goals, but was a casualty of United’s cost-cutting exploits when the season came to a close.

Despite the expectations from many, Harper failed to live up to his former standard, and became better known for his helicopter impressions in the centre-circle rather than the marauding runs, and thunderbolt goals seen earlier in his career.

Veteran Nolberto Solano has also joined Hull City.
