Sheffield United will not be paying over the odds for Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy, despite the latest injury setback.

Nosworthy, a player who has been on the Blades radar since his loan spell ended at the close of the season is valued at over half a million by Steve Bruce’s men, and despite wanting to offload the former Gillingham man, refuse to drop their asking price.

The Sheffield Star states that a ‘senior source’ had this to say about the defender:
‘As things stand, the deal is far too expensive. We have to be careful not to commit ourselves to things that might prove a burden in the future.

Sunderland want a lot of money and, while Nyron would probably be ready to take a pay cut, when you put the two sums together they might still add up to more than we can afford.

It’s a shame but we have to be sensible.

It could lead the Blades to once again revert to free transfers and loan signings, with Arsenal centre-back Kyle Bartley a reported target.
