Former Sheffield United defender Matt Lowton is set to sign on loan for Huddersfield Town within the next 48 hours.

The former Blades youth academy product will sign for the West Yorkshire side, according to Lancashire Live. Lowton has struggled for game time this campaign.

The right back has fallen down the pecking order at Burnley thus making only two appearances, both in Carabao Cup action.

Lowton, 33, made over 200 appearances for Burnley across a seven year spell. But since the arrival of Vincent Kompany he has struggled to get into the team.

Matt Lowton’s contract is set to expire in the summer, so this loan opportunity with Huddersfield Town is a chance to put himself in the shop window. The right back is vastly experienced having played over seven seasons in the Premier League.

Lowton joined Sheffield United’s academy in 2004. He spent time on loan with both non-league Sheffield and Hungarian side Ferencváros before making the break into United’s first team in 2010.

The Chesterfield born defender went on to play 78 times for the Blades before signing for Aston Villa for a reporter fee of £3M back in 2012.

He will join the West Yorkshire club in 23rd place, giving them vital experience and much needed quality at the back.
