Surprise, surprise, England disappoint in a friendly!

It’s as if England were trying to prove my earlier article right tonight, with a dull and dismal display against Spain at Old Trafford.

England started the game well, full of energy and created a number of near chances, but as the game went on the early excitement and promise disappeared.

The killer blow came from the boot of Barcelona’s Iniesta on 63 minutes and was a rare moment of quality in a poor second half.

Iniesta found some space on the edge of the box and released an unstoppable half-volley that flew in to the top left corner of the net.

The most disappointing factor to come out of the game was England’s reaction to the goal. Spain obviously tried to play the game out, but England showed little spirit or interest to try and get back into the game.

Perhaps, the only shining light of the game was the performances of Richards and Barton who actually seemed to care that they were losing the game.

Unfortunately my earlier predictions proved to be all too true, and the pressure really is now starting to build on McClaren’s shoulders.
