New Chief Scout Bill Dearden has spoken of his delight at returning to Bramall Lane. With a rebuilding process underway, Dearden will have the unenviable task of looking to acquire the talent needed to secure promotion, whilst not stretching the purse strings.

Dearden said: ‘I am very pleased to be back because it seems an awful long time ago that I was here. I have been here watching matches for the last few years, but it is a long time since I last stood on the pitch.

‘I was going on holiday a couple weeks ago when Danny phoned and asked if I fancied come back to Sheffield United and I just said no problem. I spoke to Blackpool and they agreed to let me come home,’ said Dearden, who added that he can’t wait to get started on what he describes as a ‘great challenge’:

Dearden has highlighted experience as a key in the players to arrive.

‘My number one priority is finding players and getting them in as quickly as possible to get straight out of this league. I am used to a challenge after my time at Blackpool and I am hoping for the same success here.

We need established players in certain positions to compliment the enthusiasm of the youngsters, they also need guidance and perhaps I can help with that too, along with a few experienced players.’
