Manager Nigel Clough has said that he was deeply frustrated with our loss last night to MK Dons at Bramall Lane because in his opinion it was a game we didn’t deserve to lose.

Speaking to the Official Site following the one nil defeat that Clough called ‘undeserved’ he explained.

‘We were very pleased with the performance but not the result, the two just didn’t go hand in hand on the night. We felt we played much better than we did against Oldham and Notts County, yet we lose the game, so that is really frustrating.’

Clough went on to say that the game is about fine margins, and Dons got the break from the freekick whereas despite a host of balls into their box, it just ‘wouldn’t fall for us’ and we couldn’t get that goal that we more than deserved from the balance of play.

‘Obviously it was a real bow to lose Chris O’Grady after just 20 minutes, but we got organised and in the second half we dominated possession and territory, but the break proved elusive. We perhaps lacked that bit of quality in and around their penalty area, but MK Dons weren’t better.’

As for the freekick that led to their goal, Clough wasn’t convinced it was the correct decision either but in terms of luck and how the game went ‘the lad mis-hits the rebound straight to the lad at the back post and they snatch all three points.’

Speaking a little more about the injury to O’Grady, Clough said the substitution was mainly precautionary as he had a tight calf and he felt it would be ‘silly’ to have risked him further and ran the risk of making it a more serious problem, but he should be fine for Fleetwood Town as his loan deal makes him ineligible for the FA Cup anyway.
