Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough said he felt his side thoroughly deserved the win after a late winner at Colchester United.

United won 1-0 thanks to a Chris Porter penalty with just three minutes remaining, in a game they dominated for long periods.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Clough said, “It was a thoroughly deserved victory over the course of the whole game.

“At half time I thought we might have missed our chance as we were so dominant, creating chances, had good situations and we hadn`t made the most of them.

“I was very pleased with the way we played but I was frustrated at half time.”

Porter again proved to be the hero after coming on as a late substitute. Having scored twice as a late substitute against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup recently, Porter was again taking responsibility from the spot less than four minutes after coming off the bench. The striker stepped up to score the crucial winner after Ben Davies had been fouled in the penalty area.

The win for United sees them jump into the top half of the table just three weeks after slipping into the bottom two with a poor 3-0 defeat at Crewe Alexandra. United have now won four in a row in League One without conceding since the defeat at Crewe and they are now six points clear of the relegation places.
