Manager Nigel Clough has said he had a sense of disappointment at full time in our one all draw against Walsall at the weekend because he felt we should’ve won the game.

Speaking to the Official Site after seeing Chris O’Grady give us the lead, before Walsall levelled three minutes later, the gaffer was disappointed that we had again got our noses in front but threw it away, as we were then unable to grab the lead again.

‘It’s another frustrating draw, because like at Fleetwood we have got in front and not gone on to win the game. Walsall got their equaliser so soon, it gave them a massive lift and went along way to the final result. We needed to keep thing tight for 10-15 minutes after our goal and really make them think about how they were going to get back into the game, but we haven’t and we paid the price.’

With that disappointment aired, the gaffer did go on to praise a number of players for their performances on the day, and obviously our goalscorer figured in that praise.

‘We are delighted with what we have seen from Chris in his 90 minutes against Fleetwood and Walsall and he has shown he will be a real handful for defenders in League one, but it was still vitally important for him to get that goal.’

Clough adds that it was a fantastic ball from Baxter to tee him up and then a great finish by O’Grady to put it away, and elsewhere there were plenty of positives from the game as well and he was chuffed with Che Adams’ starting league debut, as he believes he had ‘bags of raw talent’ and now it’s down to the coaching staff to refine him because he does need a lot of work, but he’ll only improve given time, training and more experience.
