Sheffield United were celebrating a midweek league cup win over a Premier League side but at the weekend, when it was back to league 1 duty, we had to settle for a point against Walsall.

A second half lead wasn’t something that we could hold with a swift Walsall equaliser denying us at Bramall Lane in a one-one draw.

We looked most likely to break the deadlock with both Baxter and O’Grady having headers, which couldn’t hit the target and Scougall not causing Walsall ‘keeper Richard O’Donnell any problems.

The closest to a first half goal came from us in first-half injury-time with Baxter’s 25-yard strike rattling the crossbar.

A breakthrough came 10-minutes after the break when Brighton loanee O’Grady (56) converted from Baxter’s pass to put us ahead. Walsall took just three-minutes to level things up though when Bradshaw (59) headed a Cook cross past Howard.

Harris, clipping the crossbar, and Cuvelier both went close to getting us a winner but we had to be content with a one-one draw.
