Sheffield United youngster Matt LOwton has spoken of his delight after signing a contract extension at Bramall Lane.

Lowton, whose name was circulated towards the end of last season with his release imminent, the defender fell fortunate of circumstance and was signed to a one year deal by former boss Kevin Blackwell.

The youngster, who has spent time on loan with Ferencvaros then started the season opener at Cardiff before being sent off in the first-half, but has done enough in training to persuade Gary Speed to give him an extension until the Summer of 2012.

‘My existing deal was due to run out next summer but hopefully the new contract will give me time to develop and learn from the coaches and the senior players at the club.

The defender replaced the injured Kyle Bartley at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and will be fighting to regain his place despite the arrivals of Jean Calve and Ritchie De Laet.
