Sheffield United have signed Croatian international defender Filip Uremović following his release from the Russian side Ruben Kazan.

The 25-year old defender joins the Russian club after their league has been suspended due to the current conflict with Ukraine, with Uremović available on loan following the release from his contract.

Sheffield United are looking to bounce back at the first attempt following relegation from the Premier League last summer. Under Paul Heckingbottom, United have a good opportunity of reaching the top-six and, potentially, gaining promotion via the Play-Offs. However, the squad is wriggled with injuries, particularly in defensive, where this recruitment will, hopefully, strengthen the Blades defensive unit.

Recently, the Blades had seen former Liverpool and Derby defender Andre Wisdom train with the club, but this move doesn’t seem to be coming to fruition.

He joins the Blades for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign and could make his debut at the Bet365 stadium where Stoke City are the Blades next opposition on 2nd April.

The centre-half defender has been capped six times by his country, most recently in a 4-2 defeat in France on 8th September 2020.
